WASHINGTON – Yesterday, U.S. Representative Jason Smith (Mo.) spoke on the House floor to slam President Biden for using executive actions to secretly put his radical agenda in place, footing taxpayers with a $532 billion bill with the stroke of a pen and without any input from Congress.

In his fight to hold the administration accountable for their reckless spending, Smith requested – and received – a Congressional Budget Office report on the cost of President Biden’s executive actions. The report found that President Biden’s overreach has cost taxpayers more than half a trillion dollars.

As Smith noted, President Biden spent $85 billion to continue a pandemic-era student loan payment moratorium benefitting higher income earners. An overwhelming majority of Americans - 87% - do not have federal student loans and 60% of student loan debt is held by households with incomes over $74,000.

Smith also took President Biden to task for wasting $11 billion in taxpayer funding by eliminating strengthened work requirements in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for able-bodied adults without dependents.

Following Are Smith’s Remarks:

“As families are forced to make tough financial decisions every day because of sky-high inflation, Washington Democrats are fueling the economic crisis by spending hundreds of billions of dollars to advance their radical agenda.

“But that’s just the spending they’re trying to pass through Congress. President Biden is using executive actions to secretly put his radical agenda in place, footing taxpayers with a $532 billion bill without any input from Congress.

“He spent $85 billion to continue a pandemic-era student loan payment moratorium benefitting higher income earners. He put $11 billion down the drain by eliminating strengthened work requirements to SNAP for able-bodied adults without dependents.

“Instead of spending half a trillion dollars on things like reducing work incentives and giving handouts to the wealthy, President Biden needs to get serious about solving the significant challenges for working class Americans.”
