HAYTI, Mo. – Tuesday Congressman Jason Smith celebrated the Hayti High School football team’s historic Class 1 State Championship with the high school students.
Speaking to Hayti High School students in the school’s gymnasium, Congressman Smith remarked how their championship was historic not only for Hayti, but for all of southeast Missouri.
“Not only is this the first state championship for Hayti, but it’s the first state championship ever brought home to the Bootheel,” said Congressman Smith. “This team is incredibly talented, and having eight All-State players is an incredible accomplishment.”
The Hayti football team ended a perfect season on December 1st with a 44-0 win over Lincoln High School to capture the first football state championship in the school’s history. This season Hayti outscored opponents 838-80 during its 15-0 season.
“It’s a testament to their hard work and preparation,” said Congressman Smith. “The players and coaches worked incredibly hard all season, and the Bootheel is proud of them.”
