SCOTT CITY, Mo. – This week the Southeast Missouri Regional Port Authority honored Congressman Jason Smith (MO-08) for his work to enhance rural infrastructure in southeast Missouri.
After a tour of the port facility and mill, the Semo Port Authority Board of Commissioners presented Congressman Smith with a resolution recognizing and thanking him for his work to secure a $19.8 million grant from the Department of Transportation. The grant will be used to build a railway loop at the Semo Port, which will help the port increase capacity and provide a more economical shipping method for local businesses and farmers.
“Enhancing rural infrastructure creates jobs and builds a better quality of life for Missourians,” said Congressman Smith. “This investment will allow farmers and workers to move their products to market more efficiently and boost our local economy. I’ve been happy to fight for this grant along with Senator Blunt and work with the Semo Port to make our area attractive for more businesses and bring our infrastructure into the 21st century.”
The Semo Port Authority Board of Commissioners’ resolution states, “Representative Smith has worked unceasingly” to enhance the port, and his work will improve “its infrastructure and finances, resulting in new industries, jobs, and investment in Missouri.”
