Today, Congressman Jason Smith hosted students participating in the Missouri 4-H Citizenship Washington Focus leadership program in Washington, D.C.

“I’m excited to host these outstanding young students and think it’s great that they have taken an interest in American history and civics,” said Congressman Smith.

“I remember my first trip to Washington, it was with the Salem FFA, and it had a lasting impact. It really helped me understand our civic duties as Americans and inspired me to serve and lead,” said Congressman Smith. “In fact, I still have my Salem FFA jacket hanging in my office!”

Smith talked about the importance of being a servant leader and building relationships with people.

“It has been my honor to serve southeast and south central Missouri, and I learned quickly after being elected to Congress that the quickest and best way to make a difference is to build relationships with people and understand how you can accomplish your goals together,” said Congressman Smith.

While in Washington, Missouri 4-H Citizenship Washington Focus leadership program delegates participate in forums, workshops, and mock elections. They will also travel to Baltimore, MD and New York, New York to learn more about history, leadership and our nation.

Smith’s office has hosted 4-H Citizenship Washington Focus leadership program participants every summer since he was elected four years ago.
