Congressman Jason Smith (R-MO) touted over $2.9 million for infrastructure improvements at Malden Regional Airport (MAW) in Dunklin County. This funding, part of a grant program with the Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration, is expected to be used primarily for resurfacing the airport’s runways.

After the grant was announced, Congressman Smith spoke about his work to improve rural infrastructure in southeast Missouri.

“Enhancing rural infrastructure creates jobs and builds a better quality of life for Missourians,” said Congressman Jason Smith. “I fought to secure this critical funding to ensure our farmers and workers are able to move their products to market more efficiently and boost our local economy.”

Malden Mayor Denton Kooyman was thrilled to hear about this funding and expressed his gratitude to Congressman Smith for obtaining this much needed funding for Malden Airport.

“I want to thank Congressman Smith for his great leadership in Congress to help secure this critical funding,” said Mayor Kooyman. “This investment will make our area more accessible and we are optimistic this will lead to an increase of investments here at the Malden Industrial Park.”

Congressman Smith also spoke about his commitment to fighting for southeast Missouri’s continued success.

“I’m proud to fight every day for rural America, our communities, and our way of life,” responded Congressman Smith. “Today’s funding will not only expand access but entice future investments to be made right here in our local communities.”
