Congressman Jason Smith Announces 4th Annual Farm Tour

in Missouri’s 8th Congressional District
Cape Girardeau, MO – Today, Congressman Jason Smith is unveiling the schedule of his 4th Annual Farm Tour. This year’s tour will cover nearly 3,000 miles while crisscrossing all 30 counties in Missouri’s 8th Congressional District.
“Agriculture is what drives the economy here in southeast and south central Missouri. It is a big part of all our communities and a way of life for many of us, and that is really important to me,” said Smith. Adding, “Across the state and even the country, the folks of this area are known for growing the best crops like soybeans, rice, corn, and cotton or for raising world class cattle, but this year we also want to take a special look at some of the lesser known areas right here at home that are helping make agriculture and our economy even more robust.”
The tour will start Monday, July 25th and last two full weeks, through the beginning of August. Stops will include a Whitetail deer farm, a Trout farm, and visits to farms which grow trees and peanuts. Visits will also include places which help supplement agriculture services like milling, ginning and aerial spraying.
In addition to highlighting the importance and prominence of agriculture in Missouri’s 8th Congressional District, Smith also enjoys hearing directly from the families and farmers about the operations they are running right here in southeast and south central Missouri. “Farming is a way of life and these folks are some of the most hard-working, salt-of-the-earth people. They just want Washington out of the way and out of their lives, so they can do what they do best. Farmers care about their family and neighbors and make our communities great. I couldn’t be more proud to serve and represent them,” said Smith.
Approximately 40 events for the farm tour have been confirmed so far and the current list may be found below. Additional events are still being planned and may be added. Only events where a media advisory has been sent ahead of time are open to the press.
