EMINENCE, MO – Congressman Jason Smith was in Eminence on Monday to meet with Mayor Jim Anderson, and Presiding Commissioner Jeff Cowen to learn more about the flooding and recovery efforts in the area.
U.S. Rep. Smith, Mayor Anderson, and Presiding Commissioner Cowen met at Eminence City Hall to discuss areas that were damaged in Eminence and Shannon County and talk about the town’s plans for rebuilding. Following the meeting, Mayor Anderson took Smith to see damage in the community.
“Everyone I’ve spoken with tells me about their plans for rebuilding even better than before and getting ready for tourist season,” said Congressman Smith. “I’m amazed by their resilience and how they are responding to such an overwhelming amount of damage. They are truly living up to the ‘Eminence strong’ mantra.”
Smith met Riverside Cabin owners John and Judy Stewart who are working night and day to get their cabins cleaned out and ready for tourist season. Smith also saw the extensive damage at Cross Country Trail Rides where the owners are working to rebuild and get ready to host trail rides again in the near future.
“The community has truly come together,” said Congressman Smith. “I talked with Robin Staples at Circle B, and she told me about all of the selfless people who have volunteered to help her clean up and rebuild the campgrounds.”
Congressman Smith and his office are in constant communication with Shannon County officials on the ground to provide support throughout the recovery process. Residents are encouraged to document damage to their homes and businesses by taking photos and writing down their losses.
