Today, Saturday, September 28, 2013 Congressman Jason Smith announced he will vote for a continuing resolution in the House of Representatives that will fund the federal government through December 15 and provide a one year delay of ObamaCare for all Americans. Smith also supports a separate bill to provide funding for military pay and benefits in the event that President Obama and Senate leaders are not willing to work with the House to keep the government open.
“ObamaCare should be delayed for all Americans. President Obama has already exempted big business and labor unions from complying with his healthcare law. If ObamaCare is too harmful for big business and labor unions it should not be forced onto families and individuals,” said Smith. “President Obama should treat families in Missouri and across the nation with the same regard he treats labor unions and big business. Families and individuals in Missouri are no less important than President Obama’s politically connected special interest groups.”
Smith said the continuing resolution passed today shows the House of Representatives is serious about working with the Senate and President Obama.
“President Obama needs to stop drawing a line in the sand and start working with the House of Representatives. It is shameful that President Obama is more willing to negotiate with Iran and Russia than with Republicans in the House of Representatives,” said Smith. “The House is serious about working with the Senate and President Obama to keep our government functioning while delaying ObamaCare. President Obama and Harry Reid need to stop being obstructionists and acknowledge that a majority of Americans have serious concerns about rising healthcare premiums, jeopardized patient care and job-killing mandates.”
Smith supported a stand-alone measure to provide funding for military pay and benefits in the event that President Obama and Senate leaders are not willing to work with the House to keep the government open.
“Our men and women in uniform should not be used as political pawns. The House is acting to ensure our service members continue to receive the pay and benefits they have earned regardless of Washington politics,” said Smith.
