On Tuesday, February 3, 2015, Congressman Jason Smith voted to fully repeal Obamacare. The repeal legislation, which Congressman Smith cosponsored, passed the House of Representatives 239 to 186.
“I will continue to oppose all efforts by this president to put government bureaucrats between doctors and their patients,” said Congressman Smith. “Obamacare is a one-party disaster that never received a Republican vote. The American people didn’t want it then, and they don’t want it now."
“Businesses throughout southeast and southern Missouri have been forced into a corner and made to lay off employees or face steep fines under Obamacare’s mandates. I’m hearing the same thing from job creators throughout the district: Obamacare is eliminating jobs and increasing the cost of health care.
“Obamacare’s impact on hard-working families has been equally devastating. A constituent recently wrote to me and shared that he was dropped from his health insurance plan. The new choice is more than twice as expensive. At a time when Americans are struggling to make ends meet, no one can afford that kind of increase.
“It has come to light that the Obama administration knew full well this bill would drive up health care costs. Jonathan Gruber, the architect of Obamacare, made it clear that President Obama did not just attempt to hide skyrocketing costs from Americans, he actively tried to deceive us. That’s just wrong.
“I cosponsored this bill because I’m focused on finding patient-centered solutions that will bring costs down and provide better care. In addition to repealing Obamacare, this bill directs Committee Chairmen to identify solutions and empower patients with a better health care system.”
This is the fourth time the House has passed a full repeal of Obamacare and the first time with a Republican-controlled Senate.
