“Today we witnessed once again this Administration’s obsession with going around Congress and the will of the American people to try and advance restrictions on the Second Amendment rights of every American. In calling out Missouri this president is using his soapbox to try and politicize events and claw back rights promised to every American by the U.S. Constitution.

In 2015, the facts are that places like Washington, DC had nearly 4 times more gun related deaths than the 8th district of Missouri and cities like Baltimore, New York, and Chicago that promote gun free zones have seen a dramatic increase in gun related violence.

Just this week, Texas became the 45th state to make open carry of a firearm legal. Afterwards, Lt. Gov. Patrick pointed out that, “every one of the mass shootings except two in America since 1950 have been gun-free zones and every one in Europe.”

If the administration really wants to protect Americans and not try to advance an agenda aimed at solidifying the president’s legacy of failed leadership, they would look at the true facts. Laws like the Castle Doctrine, which I helped sponsor in Missouri, help people to responsibly protect their family and their property.”
