WASHINGTON, DC – Today, on Missouri’s Bicentennial Day, U.S. Congressman Jason Smith is celebrating passage of Missouri’s bicentennial resolution, which he sponsored in the House of Representatives.

“For two centuries, the Show Me State has been showing folks how to get things done. To put it simply, you can’t talk about American history without talking about Missouri,” said Rep. Jason Smith. “As we start the next chapter in Missouri’s history, our future is bright, and I couldn’t be more excited to witness the remarkable accomplishments from the next generation of trailblazers.”

The United States Congress and President James Monroe approved statehood and entry into the Union for the Missouri Territory on August 10, 1821, making Missouri the nation’s 24th state and the “Gateway to the West.” Since then, Missourians have raised families, farmed land, built businesses, and made major contributions to our society, economy, and American history.

The resolution, H. Res. 561, celebrates notable Missourians and recognizes Missouri’s significant contributions to science, entertainment, technology, sports, and agriculture.
