Congressman Jason Smith (MO-08), issued the following statement on President Biden’s decision to end the use of Title 42 border policy and the mounting crisis along the southern border. The use of these authorities were implemented by President Trump to give border security personnel further tools to stem the flow of illegal immigrants across the southern border.
“Today’s decision to end the Title 42 border policy will only pour gasoline on a fire that is raging at our southern border. So far, under Joe Biden’s watch, America has had 150,000 or more illegal immigrants cross our southern border each month for 12 straight months, and reports indicate there are already 60,000 people waiting in northern Mexico to cross as soon as Title 42 is lifted. This decision comes on the heels of the Administration’s admission earlier this week that they are ignoring clear bipartisan instructions from Congress by paying contractors not to build a wall on our southern border while instead conducting “community consultation” and “environmental restoration.” Make no mistake: this is yet another deliberate attempt by the Biden Administration to inflame a crisis of the president’s own making.”
