LICKING, MO – Congressman Jason Smith was in Texas County on Friday to meet with small business owners Joaqin Torrans and Jennifer Bernard, and Texas County Emergency Management Director Keith Follin.

Torrans and Bernard own the Boiling Springs Resort where many cabins were lost to flooding.

“Joaqin and Jennifer’s perseverance through this disaster is incredible,” said Congressman Smith. “They told me about their plans to reopen for Memorial Day weekend and shared their gratitude for the volunteers who have helped with clean up at the resort.”

Follin showed Smith damage to the local area which included a house that was swept off of its concrete pilings by the sheer force of flood waters.

“We have experienced a historic flood and I hope we will never see the likes of it again in our lifetimes,” Smith added. “Communities are committed to getting back to normal. Their dedication is amazing and is playing a vital role in the recovery of southeast and south central Missouri after this major natural disaster.”
