WASHINGTON – Yesterday, U.S. Representative Jason Smith (Mo.) spoke on the House floor to slam Democrats on the House Ways and Means Committee for releasing President Donald Trump's private tax returns, an action made more egregious because the information included a child’s social security number.

Smith blasted Washington Democrats for using their few remaining weeks in power to launch a taxpayer-funded attack on a political opponent instead of solving the issues working-class Americans care most about, whether it’s securing the border, lowering energy costs, or cutting spending to bring down the cost-of-living.

Smith noted that the precedent set by Ways and Means Democrats gives the incoming Republican majority the clear authority to use similar tools to investigate whether President Biden and his family have enriched themselves off the Washington Democrats’ agenda. Smith cited several areas of concern with the Biden family’s business dealings:

  • Foreign governments paying to have their principals in the same room as the president;
  • The sale of U.S. natural gas to China – of which the Biden’s held a 10 percent equity stake;
  • Business plans to sell one of the largest sources of cobalt for electric vehicles to China;
  • The $11 million made from Hunter Biden’s “work” with a Ukraine firm and a Chinese businessman; and
  • Over 150 red flags, or Suspicious Activity Reports, filed by banks with Treasury suspecting transaction activity related to money laundering or fraud.
