Congressman Jason Smith Supports Plan to Defund ObamaCare

September 19, 2013

Today, Thursday, September 19, 2013, Congressman Jason Smith released the following statement supporting the House plan to pass a continuing resolution that will defund ObamaCare while keeping the federal government open.

“When I talk to folks back home in Missouri, it remains clear that our families and businesses want to keep the federal government open and defund Obamacare. As time goes on, the list of problems with Obamacare gets longer.  The reality of rising premiums, job-killing mandates, and jeopardized patient care are proof that this unworkable legislation must be stopped.

“Later this week the House of Representatives will vote on a continuing resolution that will keep the government open, but will defund President Obama’s healthcare mandate. I wholeheartedly support this plan to defund ObamaCare while keeping the government open. This vote will be a victory for my constituents who are adamantly opposed to ObamaCare and the disastrous impact it will have on our rural economy.

“After the House of Representatives votes to defund ObamaCare this week, the United States Senate must justify to the American people why ObamaCare is too harmful for businesses, but should still be forced on families and individuals. The Senate must justify why special interests are eligible for waivers and delays while average Americans will be hit with ObamaCare’s tsunami of mandates, fines and confusion.”
