Congressman Jason Smith Votes Against Debt Ceiling Hike

February 11, 2014

Today, Tuesday, February 11, 2014, Congressman Jason Smith issued the following statement after voting against raising the nation’s debt limit:

“Folks in Washington need to understand what families in Missouri already know: America has a serious spending problem. Only in Washington would the solution to a $17 trillion national debt be an increase in our borrowing limit. This legislation raises the debt ceiling by hundreds of billions of dollars without cutting a single cent of spending. It’s past time for Congress to stop spending money that they simply do not have,” said Smith. “During my campaign for Congress, I promised families in Missouri’s Eighth District that I would fight to change the way Washington does business. This is the second time in just eight months that I have voted against increasing America’s borrowing limit. Congress cannot just keep raising the debt ceiling without cutting federal spending.”
