Merry Christmas!
December 19, 2025Christmas is a joyous season that carries a special meaning for millions of families across our great country. It is a time when families gather at church to reflect on what makes this day such a special time. In small towns and rural communities throughout the Eighth District, Christmas is not about presents or a day off of work. It is about faith, family, and gratitude for the greatest gift God has given us: the birth of his only son, Christ our Lord.
As we reflect on the true meaning of Christmas, the stories of Jesus’ birth resonate deeply in Missouri. We remember that Jesus himself was born in manger, and God chose to reveal his birth first to shepherds keeping watch over their flocks at night.
Neighbors seek to follow Christ’s example with acts of kindness that often happen quietly, without recognition – whether it’s volunteering at a local food pantry, checking on an elderly neighbor, or helping a family facing a difficult year. These small acts reflect the true spirit of the season.
During this special season, I especially like to reflect on scripture. A particularly meaningful passage comes to us from Titus 3:4-6: “But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior.” At this time of year, I like to reflect on how we too can show mercy in the same way God showed to us.
Christmas also reminds us to be grateful for those who serve. I am especially mindful of our servicemembers who will spend the holidays away from home, defending our freedoms far from their loved ones. We owe them more than words of thanks — we owe them our continued support and a nation that honors their sacrifice. I am equally grateful for our first responders, healthcare workers, farmers, and truck drivers who keep our communities running, even on holidays.
As we celebrate Christmas, my prayer is that every home across the district experiences moments of peace, joy, and time with loved ones. May this season renew our sense of purpose, strengthen our commitment to one another, and remind us that even in challenging times, there is always hope through our Savior, Jesus Christ.
From my family to yours, I wish you a Merry Christmas, a blessed holiday season, and a joyful New Year. May God continue to bless the Great State of Missouri and the United States of America.
