Smith Visits Mt. Zion Bible School in Douglas County
April 7, 2026AVA, Mo. – Congressman Jason Smith (MO-08) visited Mt. Zion Bible School in Ava, Missouri recently where he met with staff, toured the campus, and spoke with students about his own path to Congress and the importance of hard work and perseverance.

Congressman Smith said, “My faith has always been important to me, and schools like Mt. Zion play an important role in rural communities by providing families with an education option that reflects their values and prepares students for both life and service.
“I was privileged to have the chance to talk with students about my own journey and how I got to where I am today. I wanted them to know that no matter who you are or where you come from, if you’re willing to work hard and stay committed, you can achieve anything. Seeing the strong sense of faith, community and dedication to learning here at Mt. Zion makes me confident in the future of these students and this community. I will continue working in Washington to support schools like this for years to come.”
Originally founded in 1914 and operating continuously as a faith-based institution since 1936, Mt. Zion Bible School serves students from pre-kindergarten through high school with a focus on individualized, scripture-centered instruction. With a low student-teacher ratio and a campus spanning hundreds of acres in rural southern Missouri, Mt. Zion’s focus is to prepare students for academic success and faith-based service.
The Working Families Tax Cuts enhanced 529 savings plans, allowing families to use those funds for a wider range of educational expenses, including tuition, books, tutoring, and vocational training. Additionally, new Trump Accounts provide families with another tool to begin building long-term financial security for their children, and give them personal ownership in the success of the nation’s economy. Together, these policies are helping support families, strengthen educational choices, and invest in the future of students across southeast Missouri.
