Two Years of Wins for Missouri Families
October 30, 2026As this Congress nears its end, I am proud of the wins I have delivered for working families, small businesses, and family farms in southeast and south central Missouri. Every fight I have taken on this Congress comes back to one goal: making life more affordable and safe for the people I represent.
I believe the Working Families Tax Cuts, which I authored, will go down in history as the most transformative piece of legislation in generations. Policies like No Tax on Tips, No Tax on Overtime, and No Tax on Social Security have already benefited more than 60 million Americans. The Child Tax Credit, which was expanded to $2,200 per child, has benefited more than 40 million families this year alone. Today, nearly 70 million children now have a Trump Account in their name, giving them a personal stake in the future success of our economy. As a result of that legislation, a family of four earning $73,000 or less pays ZERO in federal income tax — that’s real, unprecedented relief for the parents who go to work every day to provide for their family. Policies like this are why we are currently seeing record-high median household income and record-low poverty rates.
For years, big health care companies — or as I call them, health care empires — have put profits over patients, so I put the people setting those prices in the hot seat. As Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, I brought the nation’s largest insurance CEOs before Congress this year and demanded they explain why their profits continue to skyrocket, yet our premiums do too. In April, I called out the CEOs of the nation’s largest hospitals in a hearing because their prices border on extortion, hiding the true cost of care until a family gets the final bill. Those hearings were a first step to develop policies to hold these health care empires accountable and bring down costs for American patients.
For rural Missourians, the number one problem is not just the cost of care, but whether or not we can access it at all. That’s why I delivered the Rural Health Transformation Program, which is the largest one-time investment in rural health care in American history. This year, Missouri has already received more than $216 million that is being put towards making sure our rural hospitals aren’t just protected, but improved, so our communities can receive the same quality of care as those in a big city.
As a fourth-generation farmer, I also know firsthand that our agricultural community is currently facing unprecedented challenges, and more must be done, but I am proud of the wins we’ve been able to secure this Congress. Thanks to our America First trade policies, the USDA projects the agricultural trade deficit will drop by more than 40 percent this year from record-highs under President Biden’s administration. Japan committed to buy $8 billion per year of American farm goods and to raise its rice imports by 75 percent. Thailand committed to eliminate tariffs on 99 percent of U.S. goods and buy $2.6 billion a year in feed grains and distillers grains, while Indonesia agreed to eliminate tariffs on nearly all American agricultural exports. On the tax front, we delivered real relief for farmers, as well as the first increase in farm reference prices in decades, which delivered $133 million more to Missouri farmers than they would have received without the Working Families Tax Cuts.
Lastly, today, thanks to commonsense conservative policies like securing our southern border and supporting our law enforcement officers, our communities are safer, and the numbers are there to back that up. Last year, the murder rate across the nation’s cities plummeted last year to its lowest level since at least 1900, the biggest one-year drop in recorded history. These are wins every American should celebrate, and it’s what lets families in Southeast Missouri have the peace of mind they deserve.
I measure my work in Washington by how it helps people back home: a bigger paycheck, an open hospital, and a level playing field for American farmers. I’m proud of what we’ve done, but we’ve still got so much more to do. It’s my honor to fight for the people of southeast and south central Missouri.
